Funny how we are told not to put the kids first, that they should not take over and control the house. Well I never did follow the rules, and here I am again redesigning my daughters bedroom before I even start on mine. We moved into this house almost 6yrs ago, her room was the first thing we did. I created a beach theme for her, it turned out great...she was 10 then. Now she is 15, and time to make a big change. I've been working off and on in this bedroom, lots to do, and I think it's safe to say everything needs something done to it. Its been hard to find the time to focus when you have many life challenges getting in the way. Before I show the progress or the after, lets start with the before.
My daughter chose orange to be the main color, and the theme was "Fun in the Sun". So I started searching and searching...eventually it all came together. I found the vinyl wall art and the beaded curtain from Ebay. I made the valance, and the hooks were Dollarstore flip flops and we added the hooks. Hubby helped with the wallpaper border. All the furniture is what she has had since she was 2yrs, we never changed any of that. The one mistake that we made, was designing the bedroom, and then unable to find the right bedding. It took some looking, and eventually I found what I wanted, in the right colors from a bedding site on line...it came after the room was completed. So glad it worked out and she loved it. We added some extra touches, the feather boa around the lampshade, the disco ball and flower mirrors. Picked up a handmade flip flop quilt. Then focused on some art, one of the first pieces I bought, was the multi-colored large picture from a garage sale...it became the inspiration for everything else.
